Ianto arrived at the Hub to find Jack looking hot, sweaty, and dishevelled, but oddly triumphant.
“What have you been up to? Do I even want to know?”
“Remember the accident I had with those shelves in the archives a while back, the ones that fell down?”
As if Ianto could forget about that incident. It had taken him weeks to clear up the mess and sort out everything that had wound up scattered across the floor.
“I remember.”
“Well, I just had the lumber delivered to build the new shelves. Good, solid oak; it’ll last forever. I had a devil of a job carrying it all down the stairs, I must’ve made at least forty trips, but it’s all down there now, ready and waiting for whenever we have time to do the job.”
“You carried it all downstairs by yourself?”
“Yep!” Jack smiled proudly.
“Why didn’t you use the lift?”
“I tried, but the door wouldn’t close. The lift’s only six feet by eight and the wood’s in ten-foot lengths.”
“You didn’t try standing it upright and leaning it against the wall of the lift? It would’ve fitted easily.”
Jack’s eyes went wide. “I didn’t think of that!”
