The sky is a cloudless deep blue, the sun is shining brightly, and the temperature has to be over a hundred in the shade. The heat is enervating.
‘Ooh, that’s a good word,’ Buffy thinks. Sounds like something Willow would come out with so that’s maybe where Buffy got it… then the thought sort of slides away, like her brain’s sprung a leak, which… ew! It’s so hot it’s hard to focus on anything for more than a few seconds; the teachers are probably wasting their time today because chances are nobody’s going to remember anything they’re supposedly being taught.
A nap would be nice, somewhere cooler, maybe the library, or the freezer in the cafeteria, but there’s another class after this one and Buffy doesn’t want to get in trouble for skipping classes, even though her brain could probably be marked as absent. Only her head doesn’t feel empty, more like it’s filled with wet sawdust, so heavy it’s difficult to keep from slumping over her desk. Propping her chin in her hand helps a bit, at least she vaguely looks like she’s paying attention. Maybe.
Think cool thoughts. Ice cream, snow, icebergs, penguins… When will this torture end?
