Bikky was away at summer camp for a few weeks, meaning that Ryo had his apartment all to himself. That, in Dee’s opinion, could only be a good thing, since his lover was usually less inhibited when the brat wasn’t around to overhear them. Better yet, both he and Ryo had the next two days off, and the previous day as they’d left work, Ryo had invited Dee over for the weekend.

Okay, that wasn’t exactly what Ryo had said, it had been more like…

“Are you doing anything over the weekend?” Ryo’s tone had been casual, almost offhand as they’d made their way out into the parking lot.

“Nope, nothin’ planned. Why? You got somethin’ in mind?”

“Oh, I was just wondering if you could maybe come over to my place and give me a hand with something.”

Such words were music to Dee’s ears. “Baby, my hands, and all my other parts, are always at your disposal. When d’you want me?”

Predictably Ryo had blushed at the insinuation. “Would eleven be okay? I know you like to have a lie-in on days off. I wouldn’t want to drag you out of bed too early.”

“Hey, when it’s you doin’ the draggin’, I’m there. Eleven it is. See ya then, babe.”

“Goodnight, Dee.”

All the way home, Dee had been on top of the world and wishing it was already tomorrow. He and Ryo had only been together for a few months, long enough for Dee to realise he and his lover had vastly different sex drives, most likely at least in part due to Ryo’s status as a single dad. The kid had to be Ryo’s priority, and Dee understood that, even grudgingly accepted it, no matter how frustrating it might sometimes be. Still, when Dee DID manage to persuade his lover into bed, Ryo certainly seemed to enjoy himself, and now he was making the first move! That was a good enough reason to be in celebratory mood.

He’d spent all yesterday evening wondering what Ryo had planned for their weekend together. He’d had more than a few ideas of his own, and his sleep that night had been filled with dreams involving Ryo, velvet ropes, whipped cream, and for some reason, a snorkel. Dreams were weird.

Somewhat uncharacteristically, Dee was up bright and early, taking his time in the shower, making sure he was spotlessly clean, his finger and toenails trimmed so as not to scratch his lover in the throes of passion. He even shaved, which he usually skipped on days off. He dressed to impress, casual but sexy in tight black jeans and muscle tee, black denim jacket over the top. With luck, Ryo wouldn’t be able to keep his hands off him.

Coffee and a bite to eat, bathroom to brush his teeth so he’d be minty fresh for snogging… Nothing put a damper on proceedings like bad breath. He was ready and out of his apartment just after ten, with a bag slung over his shoulder containing a change of clothes, shaving kit, toothbrush, and plenty of lube, just in case Ryo didn’t have enough. Maybe they’d spend the whole weekend in bed; Dee would definitely be up for that.

He pulled up outside Ryo’s building just before ten forty-five and took the stairs to the third floor three at a time, eager to see his baby and get started with the weekend’s festivities, whatever they might be. Ryo probably wouldn’t want to go straight back to bed, but maybe they could take a walk since the weather was dry and sunny, have lunch out, or even a picnic…

Ryo answered the door and Dee blinked. His lover was dressed in shabby, paint-stained jeans and a ratty old t-shirt. He still looked hot, he always did, but it certainly wasn’t what Dee had been expecting.

“Am I too early?”

“No, not at all.” Ryo smiled warmly at him. “I’ve already done most of the preparations.”

“Preparations for what?” Now Dee was really confused.

“I told you, didn’t I?”

“Not that I recall. You just asked if I could lend a hand with somethin’ over the weekend, you never said what.

“Oh. Well, I promised Bikky while he was away I’d give his room a fresh coat of paint. He’s tired of the cream walls, wants something bolder and brighter instead.”

Dee let that sink in for a moment. “So you invited me over to help with the paintin’ and decoratin’?”

“Oh, no, I don’t expect you to help with that, I just need a hand moving the furniture into the middle of the room. I already emptied most of the drawers and shelves so things won’t be as heavy, but shifting it all is really a two-person job.”

“Sounds like fun.” Dee smiled wryly. So much for hoping he was going to get lucky, but he only had himself to blame for the disappointment he was feeling. Really, he should have known better. He could at least have asked what it was Ryo needed help with instead of just assuming.

“Do you mind?”

“’Course not.” It might not be anything like what he’d been hoping for, but he’d said he’d lend a hand and he wasn’t going to back out now. He might still be able to salvage something from the weekend once the work was done. He slipped out of his jacket, hung it up, and took off his boots. “Okay, let’s get started; we’ll have it done in no time.”

Moving furniture was hard and heavy work, but with the two of them working together it really didn’t take that long. Less than an hour later the bed, wardrobe, dresser, shelf units, and Bikky’s desk were clustered together in the middle of the floor and covered with tarps to keep any paint spatters off.

“Thanks for this, Dee. I’ll be able to start the painting after lunch. I want to give the walls and ceiling two coats. Bikky picked the colors. The wall behind the bed is going to be red, and the other walls and ceiling a sort of blue-grey. Much more suitable for a teenager. Will you stay for lunch?”

“Baby, I’ll stay as long as ya want me to. Hell, I’ll even help ya with the paintin’ if you’ve got some old sweats or somethin’ I can wear. With both of us workin’ on it, should have the first coat done today, then with luck we can do the second coat tomorrow afternoon, and leave the furniture where it is until our next day off. I can come over again and help ya put it all back.”

“Thanks, Dee; that would be great. If you’re sure you don’t mind.”

“Always happy to help. Maybe later we could order takeout for dinner and then I could give ya a back rub, among other things. Did I happen to mention you look seriously hot in those old jeans?”

Ryo’s cheeks flushed pink. “They’re the scruffiest things I own; I only wear them for decorating.”

“But you fill ‘em out just right.”

“I know what you’re after. You’re such a hornball!”

“Can ya blame me? You’re gorgeous, why wouldn’t I want ya?”

“Honestly, you’ve got a one-track mind! You’ll have to wait though, because breakfast was forever ago and I’m starving. I’ve been up since before seven. Lunch, then painting, then dinner, but maybe later…” Ryo trailed off, smiling.

Dee grinned back, completely unrepentant. “I can live with that. So what’s for lunch?”

Maybe it wouldn’t be the weekend he’d been hoping for, but it looked like he might get lucky after all.

The End
