Ryo sighs. The laundry is piling up again and didn’t he just do it a couple of days ago? How can there be so much already? He still hasn’t ironed all of the last lot.
That’s life for a single dad to a growing boy. Kids get dirty faster than adults do, true fact; mud, grass stains, and goodness knows what else from playing with their friends, sauce dripped down t-shirts at lunch, mucky sleeves from wiping their noses on them instead of using a tissue…
Sure, some of the laundry is Ryo’s, and there are probably a few things of Dee’s, just as Dee will have a few of Ryo’s clothes in his laundry basket, but most of it is Bikky’s. That’s partly because some of Ryo’s things are dry clean only, but mostly because kids attract dirt like a magnet. Just because he’s nearly thirteen doesn’t mean he’s suddenly stopped rolling around on the ground, or whatever it is kids do these days when they’re having fun away from adult supervision.
Piling the laundry into the basket, along with detergent and fabric softener, Ryo hefts the lot into his arms and heads downstairs to the laundry room. He would have liked to sit down for a bit, maybe with coffee and a snack, but it’s probably best to get this lot done before it can breed. Once he’s got a couple loads going he can make a start on dinner. If he doesn’t do it nobody else will.
