Title: Tough Audience
Fandom: BtVS
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Buffy, Giles.
Rating: G
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Jokes’.
Setting: Season One.
Summary: Buffy thought she was being witty.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble.

Buffy used to think she was fairly witty, and she’d always been quick with the puns and word play when battling demons and vampires, even though her opponents seldom seemed impressed with her quips. Maybe that was fair; after all, they never impressed her with their threats and boasting; she’d heard it all before, multiple times. The forces of evil loved to hear themselves talk, always bragging about their exploits. Why they bothered she had no idea since all it did was make her more determined than ever to kill them.

This was different; she’d made what she thought was a really clever play on words regarding the latest demon to decide that Sunnydale was where it was all happening, and Giles was just staring at her with a blank look on his face, like he was waiting for the punchline, which there wasn’t one because it shouldn’t have needed one.

“That was a joke, Giles. Sort of a pun? You do have those in England, right?” It was always worth checking; just because the English and the Americans spoke the same language, sort of, didn’t mean they understood each other.

“Oh, yes, of course. Very funny.”

“My jokes suck.”
