“Trust the Doctor to drop us off in the middle of nowhere and then scarper,” Ianto grumbled.
“He couldn’t just ignore a distress signal, and it was our choice not to go with him.”
“It was Cybermen! Excuse me if I didn’t feel like confronting them again after what happened with Lisa.”
“I wasn’t criticising, I didn’t want to go either.” Jack smiled at his lover. “Cheer up! All we have to do is keep walking. We’re bound to reach civilisation eventually. I mean, this is an inhabited planet, the Doctor wouldn’t have left us here otherwise. This path has to lead somewhere.”
“I’m beginning to doubt that.” Ianto was frowning.
“What d’you mean?”
“I mean, I think we’re going in circles. I’m sure I recognise that pile of rocks we just passed.”
“We’ve passed a lot of rock piles along here; I’m sure it just looks familiar because we’ve seen so many of them.”
“I have a very good memory, Jack, plus we’ve been following this path around the base of the hill for almost an hour , but the hill’s still on our left.”
Jack stopped and peered through the trees towards the hilltop.
“We’re walking in circles.”
