Slayers are supposed to expect the unexpected; when it’s your responsibility to deal with vampires and all manner of other demonic beings, practically everything is unexpected. Demons don’t want anyone to see what they’re up to until its too late for anyone to stop them doing… whatever it is they’re planning to do. Call it a demonic quirk.
Still, there’s unexpected and then there’s totally blindsided, which is how Buffy’s feeling right now. Angel, her handsome stalker, the guy who not twenty-four hours ago saved her from the Three, getting hurt in the process, the guy who slept in her room, on the floor beside her bed all last night, who just kissed her in a way that no other boy ever has… Angel, who’s been featuring in all her recent non-Slaying related dreams, not to mention her daydreams, is a vampire!
It doesn’t seem possible! He’s always been so sweet in a cryptic warnings kind of way, always offered his help, even gave her his jacket when she was cold. How could she not have known? She’s supposed to be able to sense these things, know when a vampire is near, but she never suspected him for a second.
What does he want with her? Has this all been a trick to get close to her, lull her into a false sense of security so he can destroy her? If so, why didn’t he kill her last night, while she was sleeping? It would’ve been so easy, but he didn’t lay a finger on her, much less a fang.
Maybe she should ask him next time she sees him, because she’s sure she will, even if she has to track him down herself; whatever he’s up to she needs to know.
The worst part is, she can’t hate him.
The End
