Jack had a very sweet tooth, quite possibly a whole mouthful of them. If there was too much sugar in something he was almost guaranteed to love it, from doughnuts, biscuits and cakes to cheap chocolate, all kinds of candy, fizzy drinks, and breakfast cereals designed to give kids multiple cavities and a sugar rush of epic proportions. No wonder they were so out of control at school.
Ianto didn’t dislike sweet things; he enjoyed high quality dark chocolate, certain cakes and desserts, and even the occasional doughnut, preferably the kind filled with raspberry jam, but on the whole he preferred savoury to sweet, insisting that unlike Jack he didn’t need more sugar, he was already sweet enough. That was what made Jack’s gift so thoughtful, if a touch impractical under the circumstances.
Jack plunked the bag down on the tray table over Ianto’s hospital bed.
“I figured everyone was probably bringing you chocolates and biscuits so I got you these instead.”
The bag was filled with little individually wrapped cheeses and a box of crackers.
“It’s a lovely thought, Jack, but I don’t have a fridge to keep them in.”
“Oh.” Jack’s face fell. “I hadn’t thought of that.”
