Returning to earth after so many years roaming the stars in their spaceship was strange. So much had changed in the decades since Ianto had left with Jack after his lover had restored his wandering soul to his body; the Cardiff he’d once known was almost unrecognisable, and yet…

As they wandered the streets hand in hand they came across things that remained the same. The castle still stood exactly where it had always been, and the Gorsedd stones, though more weathered than they had been, still looked much as Ianto remembered them.

Some of the suburbs were still standing too, the rows of terraced houses now sporting solar panels and wind turbines, but still looking reassuringly familiar.

On the corner of one street in Grangetown stood a particular small, end of terrace house. An extension had been built where the old carport used to be, the red-pained front door and wooden windows had long since been replaced with modern UPVC, but the small front yard was lovingly tended, the low hedge neatly clipped, and the flowerbeds full of colour.

Once upon a time, it had been Ianto’s house; it was good to know something of his past still survived.
