A/N: Double drabble.
“Jack, we don’t need all that!” Ianto knew he shouldn’t have brought his other half with him; Jack had a worrying addiction to the kinds of things stocked by office supply stores and he was busily filling a basket of his own with post-its, bulldog clips, rubber bands, paperclips, coloured pens, highlighters, glue sticks, drawing pins, stickers, and God knew what else. “We’ve got a budget to stick to! Money doesn’t grow on trees!”
“I’m not charging these to the company card,” Jack assured his lover. “I’ll pay for them myself. Honest.” He gazed beseechingly at Ianto, turning on the puppydog eyes. “And it depends on where you are.”
That last comment left Ianto completely confused. “What depends on where I am?”
“On some planets leaves are used as currency so money really does grow on trees. The shape of the leaf determines the denomination.”
“That doesn’t sound like a very efficient system, if money grows everywhere and people can just pick as much as they want.”
“They can’t, only leaves bearing the government’s official stamp can be used,” Jack explained.
“Huh.”
“On most planets, the idea of using bits of paper to pay for things would be considered weird.”
