Summary: Buffy had thought she was taking the next step in her relationship with Angel. Instead, she lost him.

A/N: Double drabble.
Everything had been so perfect. Too perfect if that was possible. After all the fear and danger, after her failure to prevent Spike and Drusilla from resurrecting the Judge, when she was so cold and soaked to the skin by the storm, Buffy had taken refuge in Angel’s arms, giving herself to the vampire who owned her heart.
It had been the sweetest, most incredible night of her life; she’d come so close to losing Angel, to watching him leave her and Sunnydale far behind, and she’d revelled in being with him, the new, deeper closeness that developed between them as they made love, and yet… She’d lost him anyway, not because he physically left her but because that night had ripped Angel’s soul from his body, leaving a monster behind.
Just like that love was gone. She’d thought that night would be the beginning of something; instead it had spelled the end, not just of her relationship with Angel but of her happiness. How could she be happy knowing she’d effectively killed the man she loved? How could she smile and have fun knowing she’d unleashed another monster on the people of Sunnydale?
Her heart was shattered, beyond repair.
