Standing at the window, mug of coffee steaming in his hands, the sunlight coming through the pane felt warm against Ryo’s face. Combined with the bright blue of the sky, he could almost convince himself that spring had arrived, if it weren’t for the fact that less than an hour ago snow had been falling.
There hadn’t been much, just a few late flurries, but the wind was coming from the north, bitter and chilling, snatching the sun’s warmth away. He’d been out in it not long ago, on his way home with bags of groceries, feeling the wind’s icy fingers creeping through any gaps they could find, cutting right through his jeans, leaving his legs almost numb with cold.
He was glad he’d gone shopping early; the forecast said temperatures would be dropping further, with strong winds, more sleet or snow showers, possibly with some hail mixed in. That wasn’t the sort of weather to be out in if you had any choice.
Sipping from his mug, he smiled, closed his eyes, and tilted his head back, almost basking in the sunlight. Soon the clouds would return, stealing away the delicious warmth. Best to enjoy it while it lasted.
