Ryo couldn’t believe Dee was being so huffy. Okay, so the 27th Precinct hadn’t gotten the brand new, purpose built station house they’d been promised, instead being resettled in the building that had previously been the 19th Precinct, but it was still better than sharing the Bronx Precinct, as they’d been doing for the past several months.

The place was old but sturdy, and in a good location, with all the facilities they’d been accustomed to, but now instead of desks out in the cluttered bullpen, he and Dee had their own office.

It wasn’t huge or fancy, but it was fully furnished with everything they’d need, including a bank of filing cabinets that should make it more difficult to misplace important paperwork. There were windows that could be opened, air conditioning that worked, and bare walls they could decorate as they chose, within reason. With a bit of work it could look quite homey.

“They think they can buy us off with an office?” Dee huffed.

“Lighten up, Dee. So it’s not new, so what? It’s cosy and private, closer to your place so you’ll have a shorter commute, there’s a coffee shop across the street, and McGinty’s bar is just on the next block. What more d’you want?”

“They said we were gettin’ a new place, state-of-the-art!” It was practically a whine.

“New builds cost. Besides, this place has character.”

It wasn’t until a couple of months later, after Ryo accepted his feelings for his partner and they became a couple, that Dee finally warmed to their shared office, if not the precinct house as a whole.

Blinds closed and door locked, he and Ryo could make out like teenagers without risk of getting caught.

“You were right, this place does have its advantages,” Dee smirked, admiring Ryo’s flushed and ruffled appearance, his shirt untucked and his pants unfastened. Dee was in a similar state, and feeling smugly self-satisfied, not to mention sated.

“What if someone had caught us?” Ryo blushed furiously as he cleaned himself up and refastened his clothes before opening the window to clear the fug of sweat and sex.

“As if! Chief went home hours ago; we’re practically alone on late shift.” Dee lounged insouciantly at his desk.

It was Ryo’s turn to get huffy.

“That’s hardly the point. We’re supposed to be working!”

“Work’s not goin’ anywhere.”

Ryo sighed; he just couldn’t win.
