“Hurry up, will you?” Jack grunted, rolling on the ground wrestling the thing that had just arrived via the Rift. “I don’t think I can hold it much longer.”
“This is hardly my fault!” Ianto snapped back. “You’re the one who broke my torch then knocked the syringe of tranquilliser out of my hand. All I’ve got to see by now is this little doohickey on my key-ring and it doesn’t give out much light.”
“So sorry if my flailing inconvenienced you,” Jack ground out, “but our new friend here was trying to strangle me with a tentacle. I tend to react badly to being choked half to death!”
“I told you not to get so close to it!” On hands and knees, Ianto was feeling around in the grass by the light from his key-ring fob, trying to find the dropped syringe.
“How was I supposed to know it would grab me?”
“It has tentacles, Jack! Things with tentacles always get grabby; you’re the one told me that! Ah, got it… Oops! Oh, that’s not good…”
“What isn’t?”
“Don’ worry, ‘nough left f’r grabby.” Ianto stuck the needle in, then collapsed, accidentally tranquillised.
Jack groaned. “Oh, that’s just great!”
