A/N: This one’s a double drabble.
Spring was early this year, a harsh winter giving way with unexpected suddenness to milder temperatures and more sunshine than Ryo had seen in what felt like months. He stepped onto the stoop of his building, jacket hanging open, and drew in a deep breath of air fresher than he was accustomed to, living in a city where air pollution was an everyday issue.
The sky was blue overhead, small birds were flitting about carrying twigs, and the trees were full of bursting blossom. Moments like this it was impossible not to feel happy, even with the prospect of a long day at work ahead of him.
Leaving his car where it was, Ryo set off at a brisk pace. Who wanted to drive on a day like this? He’d take the bus, then walk the rest of the way; he’d left home in plenty of time so he wouldn’t need to rush, and a bit of exercise was just what he needed.
In shadowed corners there was still the odd small clump of old snow, greyish and frozen hard as concrete, but by tonight even that would probably be gone; winter was well and truly over.
Life was good.
