A/N: Double drabble.
At the close of previous years, Dee and Ryo had seen the New Year in at the 27th Precinct’s annual party, but as they were now living together, this year they’d opted for a more private celebration.
It was chilly up on the roof of their building, a light dusting of snow on the ground, but the air was still and the sky overhead clear of clouds, just the kind of weather Ryo had been hoping for.
Dee’s battered old boombox sat against the surrounding wall out of the way, radio on, the music of a few moments before giving way to the countdown from Times Square. Glasses of champagne in hand, they waited to toast the start of another year that would hopefully be as happy as the one that was drawing to a close.
At the stroke of midnight, they clinked their glasses together as off in the distance the sky lit up in a kaleidoscope of coloured streaks and starbursts. The firework display was spectacular, but although it was the reason they were on the roof, the two men scarcely noticed the noise and the flashes of light. They were too busy enjoying a New Year kiss.
