Ryo tossed and turned, restless and unable to settle. If it weren’t for Bikky, asleep in the next room, he honestly thought he would have gotten up and left the apartment long ago, but even though the boy was now fourteen he was still too young to left alone all night. Rolling over again, getting tangled in the sheets in the process, Ryo checked his alarm clock; it was already well past midnight. Groaning, he flopped onto his back again.
So much for his early night; he’d gone to bed at ten-thirty, thinking to catch up on lost sleep, only to find himself wide awake. Perhaps he should have turned the light on again and read for a while, only he doubted that would have helped.
Warm milk wasn’t what he needed either.
“Damn it!” he muttered, sitting up and flicking the bedside lamp on. He picked up his phone, wondering if it was too late to call, then shrugged. It wouldn’t kill him if he got yelled at, but sheer frustration might just do the job. Making up his mind, he hit speed dial.
The phone was picked up after only two rings; apparently he wasn’t the only one still awake. “Laytner.”
“Dee?”
“Hey, babe, you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just… could you come over? I… uh… I can’t sleep because…”
“Say no more, I’ll be there in twenty!”
Ryo could practically hear the smirk in his lover’s voice, but he didn’t care. “Let yourself in. I’ll be waiting.”
