This. I more than agree with this statement. I've seen some amazing plus sized costumers, you're one of them. Costuming is not about what you look like, but how good your costume is...if anyone thinks otherwise...I would like to introduce them to my fist.
You need to look up the difference between costuming and cosplaying. Costuming is just wearing an outfit similar to something else. Cosplaying means getting into the character, becoming that character, thinking and acting like them. The outfit is only part of it. If you can't play the role, both through actions and looks, then yeah, that's why it doesn't work out. Know your looks and body type, and be proud to work that. Understand your limits. The costume could look amazing but if you yourself don't fit the part, you are just doing sub-par cosplay.
