Viking pedagogue, pt. II

The other day, in a comment here, Alex asked me; "...do you ever have to "put anybody in line"?" And since the answer to this is a natural sequel to my previous post about adult childcare, dangerous weapons and bean incidents at the Viking Centre, here it is:

As a matter of fact, I very rarely have to raise my voice at all (admittedly preferring to ( Read more... )

I guess there is only one way to find out. I do plan to bring a camera to work one day, but I can't really pull one out while I am in "uniform." Maybe Hiro can bring one when she is visiting, and just hide it in the folds of her dress.

(PS: Don't tell her I promised you this, because she might stay in Brussels, but stayed tuned for sizzling images of my wife in full pre-renaissance getup!)

Sounds like Morten's dealing with some fairly severe parental issues or something. He needs a guitar, a drum keyboard, some bedroom recording equipment, and a lot of black paint.
Do you know anything about his background? Or any of these kids' backgrounds? It'd probably be really interesting to find out some of their stories. Then again, it might also draw you needlessly into being some kind of surrogate child psychologist, which I doubt is part of your job description.

If you can manage to wrestle Hiro into some period costume, that would be wonderful. There's a chance she might be fine with it, as it's pre-Renaissance. She also does post-Renaissance a lot.

So how do you like "The Crests of the Avians Dance To Our Vibes"? Does it hold as much magic as may have been touted? :)

You're going to be famous soon, you know.

Actually, I really really like it. Maybe even more than I would have cautiously expected to like it. My own track stands out quite a bit to my own ears, being probably the closest thing to an actual song-with-singing on the comp, but there is a clearly cohesive sound with lots of beautiful psychedelic guitar playing, weirdnesses and tectonic textures.

I might post a review or a runthrough, once I've listened some more.

At the risk of inauthenticity, I would suggest you petition the proprietors of Ribe Viking Center to hold an annual Black Metal Fest. Or an annual Viking Village Raid reenactment, as played by various volunteer townspeople. Whichever. Though, as far as the reenactment goes, you might have to soft-ball the whole rape element. Which is sad, 'cause it would be really educational on quite a few levels.

I know it might be hard, and you're bound to hit the obdurate wall of short-sighted bureaucracy, but in the end, it's really about culture and learning, and about history.
