Metonymic, dear Hudson!badgermoonhareMay 27 2007, 21:49:43 UTC
The 26th of May is dedicated to St. Augustine of Canterbury who was a missionary to the Gauls and the people of Kent. As I recall, the Celts were all about identification with and participation in horses.
I read one account of a custom in which a new king would first mount a white horse (like... mount it, bareback and all), then slaughter it, then bathe in the soup of horse meat while the whole tribe partook of the brew, symbolically uniting totem, king and people.
Hence - new godhead (Jebus and his sock puppet Augustine) dons the horsehair coat in order to be crowned as a new king.
I had to make up the linkage as an afterthought, of course, but it is serviceable, I think.
I am glad you like it. I do think that I tend to get carried away and to add too many elements. When you are on an associative roll, y'know ;-) On the Appleeater General and the Animal Dreamer in particular.

Yeah, I like the simplicity here, too. Nice textures... A finished work in progress.
:)
Did you feel that you'd overworked some of your past images?
