Thrilled that you loved Fata Morgana and Night Giving Off Flames! They really are terrific, aren't they? But yeah, NGOF is really the only JET fic I love (and boy, do I love it!). Most of her (?) stuff I can't even read - I find it bizarre and like wading through quicksand.
Oh yeah, This Humming Meadow! That was a delight.
I will bookmark i see for later reading, certainly. This is the first I'd ever heard of it.
Yup, Fata Morgana and Night Giving Off Flames are awesome stuff. These are the only two fics from JET I've read, I might try another one, just to see what's what. Yeah, wading through quicksand sums up my experience with RoATW, shame if the rest of her ( I always assume fic writers are 'her' unless told otherwise) stuff is like this.
Amyhit rec'ed me 'i see'. It's well worth the read.
I think I liked Small Lives Awake all right, if I'm remembering correctly which one that is. And there was a little snippet of a fic of hers I stumbled upon accidentally once that I actually really liked. Too bad I can't remember what it's called or where it was.
Oh, man, 'i see' has a killer ending! But very, very in-character. I haven't read "new", good XF fic in a while.
I love Night Giving Off Flames but have never read Fata Morgana. I will go read it, though.
I absolutely love Strangers and the Strange Dead, but I read it fairly closely to the time it was published, when I think the twist was still fresh. Okay, *relatively* fresh. There are a number of fics that I think I love as much for the time I read them in as for what they actually are.
I've never read The Mill either. There are so many fandom classics that have passed me by.
Julie Fortune is a good solid writer and Fata Morgana is the best story of hers I have read so far. I haven't read all of them, but the one I have were all above average stuff.
Yeah, maybe back in the days it had more of an impact. Now, Mulder abductions are like a dime a dozen. I might have enjoyed it more had I read it back in the days.

Me too! And I'm so glad my Kindle is now allowing me to catch up.
Well The Mill is one of those. It's written well enough, but I found it rushed, hammy in places and what I assume is the big "OMG!1!!!" moment at the end is handled like a damp wick on a firework.
I think appreciating this fic is all about the context. It's a story about Scully murdering kids. Murdering. Kids. And it's told in a way that doesn't sensationalize the extremity of the premise. I've always found it stylistically dry and unpleasant, but I feel like that's kind of the point. Sure, someone like RivkaT could maybe have written it as a snappy little mindfuck, a la "Shibboleth," - something with flare - but that wouldn't have worled in this instance. Anything that added life or body to the writing would have seemed inappropriate, given what the fic was about.
Also, I seem to remember cofax saying she'd originally had it in mind to use the basic premise of "The Mill" in a much longer fic.
So what? Mulder was one of the abductees? Pardon me while I nod off. He's been gone for years. Scully's carried on their work, and

Well, maybe that's the problem, is that it didn't drive this point home enough, or in a way that made this reader *care*. Maybe it's not about sensationalizing though, maybe it's about putting the right triggers in the story to make your flesh crawl. Look at 'Fata Morgana', after all it's 'just' another vampire story, it's the writing that makes it so chilling.

Actually, that's a very interesting point. But this is not something I felt while reading the story.
He's been gone for years. Scully's carried on their work, and continued looking for him, for years. See, I didn't get that. Because she calls her partner "Mulder" so I thought he got abducted after that. It's only after reading people's opinions that I got that she'd mistakenly called another FBI agent 'Mulder'. I don't know, maybe it's the third person narration but I didn't really
