This man has just pulled a full-sized rifle out of his pocket. You're welcome, Internet.
Your average rifle (taking a bog-standard civilian hunting rifle as the model) usually measures in at around somewhere between three and four feet long, sometimes longer. Compact military rifles can be shorter, but are frequently bulkier due to pistol grips, elongated magazines, sight systems, etc. I think even Rubeus Hagrid would have problems with that one.
OTOH there is the concept of "Hammerspace". Given some of the things Warner Brothers cartoon characters frequently produce from behind their backs, it's plausible... but very fandom-dependent.
The whispering "ice" comment really cracked me up. That's what I thought too. "Use Hidden Power! *wink wink, nudge nudge*" and then in a whisper, "ice."
I'm don't understand why it was necessary to tell Magnezone to dodge Heat Wave. Only an A-hole would expect their Pokemon to just take all attacks to the face by default.
The dodge command probably comes from the anime. A lot of characters would tell their Pokemon to dodge attacks. This type of carry-over is so prevalent that writing guides for this fandom warn people not to write "anime battles" (that is, battles where every single nitpicky command is given by the Trainer before it happens in the story).
Yea, this battle scene is a fail, but it's one of my "favorites". Especially the shiny Zapdos and Raikou. :p

This was also supposed to be a serious fic. It also ended with the lyrics to a rap song. I don't really know.
*imagines Hagrid trying to put a rifle in his pocket* Snigger.

But from what you've said, this fic seems to have ended up as a trainwreck of nuclear dimensions anyway, so it hardly matters.
