Why did I venture back...?

So, I have not ventured into the Naruto fandom for a few years but my friend suggested I look for a fic to spork in this fandom’s section of The Pit.  So I did.  Here is what I found:

Hello Naruto fandom. We meet again, I see. )

“"I am the goddess, Calypso, bound in the body of a young pirate who gave his life for me to be sealed like this, forever in one form, and out of the sea, I can't even leave this island.”

…But you’re a man! D: How are you a goddess? Your explanation for why you’re a man is a dumb way for the author to get slash!

Oh for crying out loud, really?

Sex is what's between your legs. Calypso's sex in her current incarnation is male. Gender is what's between your ears. As Calypso identifies as a goddess, she still identifies as essentially a woman. That is how she's a goddess, even though her body has a penis.

That's not touching the fail that is the entire rest of the fic, and my is there a lot of it, but that comment of yours was not cool.

I know all about the differences between sex vs gender, trust me, I took a class on it. I didn't mean for it to be offensive in any way. I just wish that there was a better explanation than just "oh, she's stuck in a guy's body" just so the author can have slash.

And in the fic, both characters are so OOC but Neji, who is supposed to be Calypso, doesn't really act like much of a woman, so... I just wish there had been more explanation to the whole "Calypso is in a man's body" thing.

I honestly didn't mean to offend.

Let me say first that I don't know the fandom, and honestly read your post because I'm a mod and that comment caught my eye. So I'll definitely take your word for it that this is wildly OOC (most fic that ends up here is, after all).

Let me say second that I'm not cis. My own gender does not match up with my body. So the comment hit me on a personal level.

So okay, if you know the difference between sex and gender, why did you put it that way? It's just offensive and inaccurate.

And..."doesn't really act like much of a woman"? How, exactly, is a woman supposed to act? This is really gender-essentialist and pretty misogynistic.

I can completely and totally understand not liking the premise of this fic. I personally think it's really very stupid, especially since they're attempting to combine characters and have none of Calypso in there and (from what you've said) none of Neji, either. That part, I can totally sympathize with. But the way you went about it in the original post and in the comment I'm replying to is problematic.

Ahhh I seem to be making things worse. I'm really, really sorry. I honestly never meant for it to come out like this and for the comment, the "doesn't really act like much of a woman" made me facepalm when I realized what I'd just posted.

I really am sorry. I didn't mean to be offensive. I can take out that comment.

So do I. Up until the part where I stopped reading, four months went by and nothing was explained.

Judging from the fic content, I'm going to saw they sat around giggling or something equally OOC.
