[Kate is curled up on a chair in the library.  There's a rather big book in her hand titled "Christmas Murder", which is a really crummy book of short mysteries that she isn't really interested in reading, which should be apparent by the fact that she's barely made it past the title page.

She happens to be scowling at a rather garish looking ( Read more... )

[[Weiss always finds the ones with the biggest anger streaks they could possibly enjoy having. Destiny? Probably.

But for this aspergers-esqe Arrancar, he wouldn't really know to care.]]

Mmn- huaa?

[[He stares too when she draws attention to it, not quite sure what the problem is.]]

[Kate just narrows her eyes at him. Duh.]

We're here against our will. No amount of hall-decking is going to change that.

[[He continues to stare for a moment, taking the garland down and sets it on the floor. From there, he looks back at her and tilts his head- is that what she wants? Does that help?]]

Haa..

[She just looks at him for a moment, and then laughs.]

It's not a whole lot better there, but I appreciate the thought.

[Stepping into the room, she has to smile slightly as she hears the woman's words. She might have thought the same thing at one time, but she was making the best of it.

Moving to a nearby bookshelf, she moves her fingers along the spines as she reads the titles.]

It can't be as bad as you're making it out to be. It's the holiday season, surely you're not going to let such a small thing dampen your spirits~?

[Sure, Kate can respect someone getting all into the holiday spirit - she's had to deal with it long enough from Castle - but she's just not in a mood to make the best of things these days.]

I haven't been a big Christmas person in a long time. Being here isn't helping that.

[Frowning at his comment, she didn't let the words bother her for long. Smiling after a moment, she shook her head. There was only one reason she could think of that someone may not care for spending the holidays here. Family.]

Do you have family back home?

[She nods. Granted, at least she has Castle here, and that's something. But the rest of her family - chosen and blood kin alike - are too far away for that to give her as much comfort as she'd like.]

Yeah, my dad. I don't like the idea of him being alone right now, especially if he doesn't even know where I am.

[He's been sober for 7 years. Her being here, or worse, her having died back home, well... That could mean a setback she would never forgive herself for.]

[Ichabod had no real interest in staying close to the tree this year. Last year was a disaster for him on a personal level and this year was going to be no different in his mind. He slowly strides into the library and scans the books on the shelves. Finding one that piqued his interest, somewhat, he turns toward the voice and nods.]

The Author has a lack of taste that carries on into her literary choices. I would fret not the lack of her choices however it is her story to us that I worry most about. What is she writing about and are we making an indelible impression? Perhaps that is why some were written out while others had stayed.

[Kate can definitely relate to the idea of Christmas being a disaster... It's been a long time since she was able to enjoy the holidays, but at least it's easier to fake it back in New York around her friends and her father.

She glances up at him and nods, closing her book without giving it much thought and pulling her feet up under her onto the chair.]

I've been the subject of fiction before, but I really preferred it back when it stayed fiction.

[Ichabod slides into the chair across from the table, nodding his head in agreement.]

Yes, though a bit of normalcy is hardly a gift in this place providing the environment barely allows the just cause to remain concrete. Like you, I preferred fiction to remain fiction. Personally, I would rather not relive the nightmares continuously. Allow me to introduce myself.

[He smiles warmly.]

I am Ichabod Crane, constable and a displaced like yourself.

[She just raises her eyebrows, because she's still getting used to familiar names. But it could be worse.]

Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD. This place is... really weird.

She decorated. She obviously wants us to feel at home here, and I refuse to.

Oh...well...[Ran looks a little down-trodden at that response.]

Try not to be too upset about things. Stress will only make you sick, especially during this time of year.

Thanks, that's sweet. I'll be careful.

She does and it's ridiculous. It happens for every holiday though and for some of the 'nicer' plots as well.

[Look who's disgusted with the Author's doing...He is still line-facing, though]

[She's more than happy to linefais right along with him, because this does not impress her.]

If she was really in the holiday spirit she would just let us go home.

I doubt real holiday spirit is something she can ever understand.

[Not like Mikami understood it either, his holdays consisted of working without making even the slightest different to the way his day usually went]

[Generally the same for Kate... Christmas usually meant offering to take the on call shift and having a usual dinner with her dad, but she at least she knows what Christmas spirit is supposed to be about... and it's not about this.]

Although anything is better that her joke about sending us back to a fake New York.
