[There's a distinct sound of a...phone? Connecting with whatever network this might be, then a woman's voice, clear, concise, and irritated.]
This isn't funny Megamind. [It's an automatic assumption that he's got something to do with this. She sits up, rubbing her eyes.] And, it's kind of tasteless right now, don't you think?
[She does NOT sound

Roxanne...
[He runs up the stairs and throws open his door. The look on his face is not only depicting a stunned shock but there was some marked confusion on it too.]
Roxanne!
[He seems excited to see her but he doesn't move toward her just yet.]
I...you're okay!

[Whoops, he forgot about that part.]
Yes, yes he did. Well, he did blow a huge hole in my lair and ruined some of my equipment...ooh, he'll have a lot to answer for. He's a clever one.
Reply
Yes. He is.
[...She just has to figure out a way to get back to him.]

Well, it's too bad that he isn't here to save you. Oh wait...there's more.
[He's nose is mere inches from her.]
Watch closely.
[He backs up and turns the watch face.]
He's me! How wild is that?!

Yes, that's what she was. A pawn. It's what she always HAD been.
Her jaw sets. The pawn was unique, though, wasn't it? It didn't move backwards. Only forwards.]
I don't need--
[She's cut off when he backs away, the sudden close proximity and then the glaring absence leaving her reeling and shaking with anger.
And then...
And then there's Bernard standing in front of her, sweet Bernard - the man she'd spent weeks (months, now?) getting to know, laughing with, taking bike rides to the park, getting ice cream. going to the museum--
It's a punch in the gut, a searing stab that encompasses her, causes her to stumble back, eyes wide and face pale.]
You--
It was...it's you--!

Oh yes. You see, I too was at the Metro Man museum that night you met him. You caught me unaware and I had to act fast. He was just a conven-ient access for escape.
It was me you were talking to all along.
[As he was saying these words, it felt like an ax to his neck. This really hurt.]

You just kept it up?! [He wasn't real. None of it had been real. It was all a lie - the first time in twelve years she'd thought she'd found someone, someone she cared about - and the man didn't even really exist. Not really. Bernard the surly curator, yes.
Bernard, the sweet and funny man she'd been dating? No.]
I--
I think we're done here.

[Despite the anger he was feeling at himself for acting so coldly and irrational toward a person that not only he loved but also someone that barely knew him at the same time he folded his arms in a semi-terse manner, he still couldn't bring himself to be the one to break her heart yet he did it easily.]
I'm the evil one, remember? I'm the bad guy that never gets the girl. And now...it looks like I really did it this time.
[His emotions were like a train wreck. Just a week prior, he resigned that he lost her forever and returned to his work as if nothing happened. And now that she is back, he has no idea how to begin. He was torn in two and nearly literally.]

Because he was evil - he was a villain. That's what he'd always wanted, wasn't it? That's what he'd said, over and over.
But this felt like it was on another level. This felt like someone had taken a steel pole and slammed it into her stomach and sent her reeling, mentally and physically.
She brushes past him, head high and arms folded tightly around her middle as if to try and hold herself together. She can do this. It's just another breakup. She's dealt with this before.
Sort of. It had never hurt like this before.]

In order for them to move forward and for her to catch up, he needed to be strong but that never made it easy for him to swallow the jagged pill.]
I'm sorry.
[He turned his back to the door and closed his eyes.]
Don't look back...
[As he thought it, he did just that and looked back with sadness in his eyes.]

She wanted to break down, but Roxanne wasn't the kind of person to simply fall apart. Not in public, never in front of someone. She could count the people in her life that had ever seen her shed a tear on one hand, and one of which had been her mother. Emotions were something she tried to keep in check, especially when you were dealing with pain, fear, and anything that might be considered as a weakness. You had to be strong on camera, after al - not all stories were easy to handle.
Her room wasn't far. Just right next door (naturally), and as she twisted the handle to go inside, she couldn't stop herself from looking back, over her shoulder and at him standing there - her glassy eyed expression meeting his.
She wrenched the door open, stepped inside, and slammed the door.
That's when the tears came.]

His lower lip trembled before he allowed himself to fall to his knees with his hands to his face. It was one of the hardest things he ever had to endure but unfortunately necessary.]
What have I done?
