[At first, being in space hadn't done much for Nina's nerves; after all, who knew what the Author had planned for them..? Who was piloting the ship? And where was it headed?

[Gene entered the kitchen to make a cup of coffee but the machines there didn't look anything like what he was used to. He spots Nina making her modifications to her shoes, he doesn't say anything to break her concentration. He moves toward the cabinet but discovered that there were no handles to open them. He sets his coffee mug down with a sigh and mutters...]

I hate this place. Nothing stays constant.

[She glances up from hammer and blade to see who was talking to themselves; when she see's it's Gene, her face starts to burn. Looking back at her shoes, she opens her mouth to speak, but hesitates]

[He looks from trying to figure out how to open the cabinets toward Nina's direction and shakes his head.]

Huh? Oh...

[He's been wanting to avoid that subject since it happened. He's not sure what is true and what isn't anymore but it was better to leave it be for now.]

yeah, about that. Don't worry about it. I wasn't prepared.

[That was partially true. The other part being that he chose a really bad time to quit smoking.]
