It's a good idea though to keep people up to date on other people that odds are they never met before.

Gives them an idea of who they might want to meet.

That or something very interesting could come about that's completely unexpected. For example: Why didn't I notice that before when I see this person everyday? Or a bit of incriminating evidence flits across that we didn't notice since everyone else seems busy with their own individual things. It's just something to consider.

Well, I think it adds a little something to our otherwise humdrum lives as we continue through our existence in a place that's not exactly....friendly.
