[The feed cuts it on L pacing. Godiva is pacing beside him, looking almost as unkempt as her human. L is mumbling to himself as he shuffles along the same stretch of floor, more worked up than usual.]
.... If the Alethiometer can measure the truth but nothing here is reality, truth and fiction combine and what can ever be real? We cannot be alive

I shouldn't have said anything. It's not my place to tell you your future.

[He is silent for a grave moment. Godiva comes over to him and nuzzles his ankle. Then they both look up, again seemingly startled by something only they can hear. Their eyes scan the ceiling.]
Did you hear that? Surely you must have...
I heard it. It is undeniably real.

We didn't hear anything.
Not a sound.

You're not a schizophrenic. It's an episode at most.

[If that helps. More than physical death Mello fears losing control. Losing control of his mind, his body, his actions. Being owned by someone, something else, from the inside out. No longer being his own man terrified him.
Mello would much rather be dead than insane and he wondered if L was the same way. If not he was just makign things worse but it was worth a goddamn try]

Dear... it... said your name...
[L swallows.] It is not real.
It sounds real! [Godiva leaps into his arms and he catches her, surprisingly, and allows her to curl up nuzzling his shoulder.]

Sounding real and being real are not the same thing. The only voices in here are yours, mine, and the fucking Daemons. Remember that.

[He backs away from Mello a bit, as if something behind Mello is advancing toward him. Godiva gives a plaintive shriek.]

What is it? What's happening?
[Bubastis arches her back, tail twitching madly]
