Okay, so it certainly wasn't the Taj Mahal, but it was a roof over their heads and that was really all that mattered. She was pleased that they had found beds-- and better yet, that they were clean beds now-- and that they'd be able to stay warm thanks to the fireplace. But there were still lots of things to do, and Lily wasn't about to let them go undone.

So she'd commandeered a space in the corner, where she'd found a rusted folding chair that had been oiled to at least be useful, and done her best to make it into a workspace, Cushioning the seat and the spot beneath where her feet would inevitably have to rest.

"You had to make the sign into Gryffindor colors, didn't you," she remarked dryly as she made her way back inside, a tattered flag in her hands that she wanted to turn into blankets for the beds.

"Yes," James answered matter-of-factly. They were the first colors that came to mind and it helped a good deal that they would probably annoy Snape. He was sitting in her chair now, hands behind his head, he eyed her newest possession with interest. "You realize that's Gryffindor colored too." He knew it was for blankets or towels or something but technically the USSR's flag was red and gold. "I think we should make it the theme. What do you think?" He got up and with a moment of thought and a very complex spell ("levamentus" and a rather complex hand motion) Lily's yard chair became a thick red armchair. The fabric was a bit patchy but it was definitely an improvement from its plastic predecessor. He looked over to see what her reaction was.

If James was looking for her to be impressed, he was really going to have to try a different avenue. She gave him a blank look, bordering on annoyed. "I know it is. It was all there was." Sure, the spell was impressively complex, but Lily really didn't need him to, well, to do nice things like that.

She wasn't going to give up her workspace, though, so she sunk into the chair anyway, pulling the flag out and stretching it across her legs. As she went to work-- ripping it into long strips, expanding the strips, and continuing the process until she had a good stack of towel-sized flags-- she gave him another tired look. "It's a safe house, Potter. It should feel comfortable for everyone. As much as I know you don't want Severus within ten feet of you, he needs to have a place as well and living in a recreation of the Gryffindor common room is not going to make it any easier. And if he's uncomfortable, you'll be uncomfortable, and I really don't want those headaches right now. Not to mention the inital biases of anyone else from the ( ... )

James stopped paying attention. He's too busy showing off. He's transfiguring some of the towel sized blankets into huge soft cozy blankets. But he nodded along with her voice as if in agreement but in a way that could not have made it more obvious that he wasn't paying attention.

Great. Deadly Radiation was keeping him at his real size longer then the temporary antidotes did. Good to know his cure was deadly. When he got back to Beika he'd tell Haibara all about this and maybe she could use it in her research. That's all he was to her anyway, a research project.

He looked up at the sign that was currently defying the laws of gravity and frowned. Well. That wasn't obvious at all. Putting a hand to his mouth the proper sized Detective yawned.

"Oi." He started, sounding bored. "Don't you know it's not good to advertise where a safe house is?"

It was defying the laws of gravity and seemed rather comfortable doing so.

"Why not?" James asked turning in the doorway to face the speaker. "It's not just mine. It's for everyone."

...He didn't seriously ask that, right? Surely the radiation was making him hear things. It made him grow so hearing things wouldn't be much of a stretch. He leaned against the structure and decided ignoring the floating sign would be better for his sanity. Or thermodynamics since apparently there was a theory out about gravity being an illusion.

"Because, not everyone in the world is a good person and putting something like that up is like a bright green arrow saying 'easy target" He stated casually, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"I like red better," James mumbled looking back up at the sign. But he offers another shrug before saying, "in this situation people need to band together not point fingers and isolate themselves. Call it the spirit of brotherhood."

Snape was inside the safe house, slouched against the wall, sulking. The safe house was a good idea. But it involved working with Potter. The Gryffindor had done as much of the work as possible, and he'd made it look as flashy as possible. His spellwork was patchy in places, and Snape had been all too happy to repair what magic needed repairing.

Now he was sitting by himself, twirling his wand between his fingers as vague smokey shapes drifted out of the tip across the room. People would eventually come. Snape was pretty sure he'd rather be left alone, but it was nice to have a roof over his head again, and one that he was sure was safe.

She was highly less irritable in this safe house. Minatsuki was quite used to being surrounded by people in a rather otherwise deadly environment, and just after Maebara had returned, her otherwise violent demeanor had lessoned considerably. But, of course, that did not mean she still wasn't a holy bitch when it came down to it, and she certainly wasn't above taking pleasure in the misfortune of others. But as they were all in the same predicament, it was becoming increasingly hard to find someone to "play" with that she could watch rile up and explode.

Minatsuki shrugged, scanning the room of the safe house with disinterest and then... Oh. Yeah... That oily haired kid was recognizable. The initial location of their previous meet did not particularly stand out in her memory, but Minatsuki had no problem walking on airs as she waltzed over to him and pointed at the wand. "Your pipe's smoking."

Snape was only half paying attention to what was going on around him. His attention was mostly focused on the strange half-shapes drifting around him. Some of them looked like serpents. Others looked like skulls, or the face of a girl.

Mostly, though, he was thinking.

A voice broke his reverie. The images faded.
It was the girl from the high school bathroom.

"It's not a pipe. I think I've told you that."

Alfred stumbled upon this place completely by accident, and stared at it. Not only did it come out of nowhere, but the sign was defying the laws of gravity. There was no way this should exist, and yet there it was. He shook his head, ignoring it for the moment as he approached it cautiously.

"Hey! Just how clean is this place? And can it give us all a really, really, really good scrubbing?"

Heather was busy stocking canned food supplies when she heard someone approach. A newbie she... vaguely remembered from the manor.

"Uh, not really. But we have some canned beans and stuff that probably haven't seen the light of day in decades!" She tried a phony smile to go along with it, but then her face fell. "Can't really get it to sound appealing, sadly..."

"Well, I'm sure we can find something!" He grins optimistically. Don't be sad, Heather! But then he remembers that she said no to his second question. "So...no place for that. Damn. That's bad."

"Hey, I like showering just as much as the next guy, but looks like we're just going to have to make due. Guess we can boil water and use old tubs or... something else totally medieval."

Heather was happily oblivious to just how bad the situation could possibly be.

Through the doors of the safe house trudged a tired and hungry-looking Iroh. In one hand he held the smallest, meanest collection of edible plants imaginable. He shuffled across the room and collapsed onto the nearest chair, crate, or chair or crate-like thing he could find. He sighed and rubbed his lower back.

"I've had better days," he moaned.

James snapped to attention wandered over to Iroh. "I think most of us have," James said with an air of attempted comradery. Iroh is so much older than he is, although usually James can connect with anyone. He offers a smile, "Let me help you with that." He doesn't say what but he means the chair. With a muttered spell the stiff stool Iroh was seated on became a thick recliner. "That help?"

Ah, magic. Iroh had come to appreciate such things since his arrival at the manor. He leaned back in the chair and sighed contentedly.

"Yes, it does. Thank you." Iroh clasped his hands over his stomach. "It is good to meet someone so willing to help their elders."

"Of course," James said with a smile. "I'm always willing to help." Really he's always willing to accept compliments. "Are you hungry or thirsty or anything?
