Violinist's Thumbs and Polar Bear's livers

I've just finished reading The Violinist's Thumb by Sam Kean. One of those books that was on the recently-returned shelf at the library and the title I caught my eye. It was very much an 'I don't care what this book is about, with a title like that I have to read it', so I checked it out and to my delight discovered it was a genetics book

Ooh, that sounds very interesting! It just came out as hardcover in Germany, I'll wait for the paperback though:-)
Fun fact: I knew about the toxicity of a Polar Bear's liver! I have basically devoured the books of Dick Francis, and when there was one thing for them then it was that the guy did his research. There was one where the protagonist was a survival expert, and he mentioned that, and it stuck because it was such a weird fact. :-)
