I adore this story and your use of Jeremy and Alaric's POV. I found this chapter harder to read because it hurt how much I will miss the Ric character and how perfectly you've captured his voice. I love that both he and Jeremy know that Elena needs Damon and that Damon needs to be kept distracted until that time comes. Love the clear and normal issues that Stefan and Elena are dealing with and that Damon isn't really a factor, it's just two people slowly realizing that they want and need different things. As this last scene clearly showed their belief system is different and they can't seem to deal with it. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know that what's going on in that final scene between Stefan and Elena will feel the same to you once you know the whole story...but fundamentally, you are right. Stefan and Elena will be very different types of vampires, and that could be a problem for their relationship, for sure.

It's sort of nice to keep Alaric in this way--and I think that's how I'm coping with my own loss of him. It will be a different show this season without him, I agree.

I'm glad you're enjoying the story, even if it's a bit difficult! :D Thanks for commenting!

Bonnie standing up for herself is a welcome change. You've captured the convoluted alliances within the group beautifully. It sure makes for a story that grabs its' readers and holds them.

It makes total sense to me that Elena will tend towards Damon's idea of vamp hood and that will in turn make Stefan rather ineffectual as her mentor. He just has no idea how to handle her.

I'm loving having Ric bouncing between all of the places and bringing information with him.

I should write Bonnie more, really, because every time I do, it's some of my favorite stuff. She's an underused and under appreciated character, I think.

I agree. I really wanted Stefan to come to the conclusion: Elena is like Damon, in a lot of ways. Which is probably why he loves her so much.

Ric was fun as a narrator because he has so much freedom, I really enjoyed writing him because of that.

Finally catching up! And, ugh, curse you, Elena's crying fit is heartbreaking :(.

But then he sat in the Gilbert kitchen and concocted a plan with Jeremy to save Damon, and he remembered. The elder Salvatore makes people feel things they don't want to feel. Things they don't want to admit they feel.

Until they're dead.

I see what you do here ;). Neat parallel!

"I don't need you to clean up anything," Bonnie says. She turns back towards Ric. "I need you," she points vaguely towards him, "to find my Grams. And I need you two to convince Stefan, Elena, and Caroline that I'm doing the best I can for everyone, but I'm not doing anything until I've at least tried this." She lifts her chin. "I'm not anyone's performing monkey, do you understand? This is my magic. And no one is going to make me do a spell I don't want to do."

ELENA MY GIRL!

Excuse me while I have feelings :(.

See, I loved Ric realizing just why Elena was crying. She had a lot of reasons to cry, but she was also getting some pretty big memories right then, and in general was just overwhelmed, and Damon wasn't there...and, and, and. All the feels. I just imagine her falling completely apart because of all of it, and Damon is a big ol' section.

Bonnie is so bad-ass. I love her, I really do. The times I've written her have been some of my favorite stuff. I should write her more often, obviously.
