This—Elena going ballistic, and him having to be the calm one—is an emergency. natural_blue_26 April 14 2011, 11:44:48 UTC
Damon slams the front door behind him, not in anger, but because he needs a fucking metaphor of a brick wall to line up between him and his brother's girlfriend, or he's not just going to nail her against the wood paneling of Ric's family cabin, but he's going to bite her while he's coming, and they aren't ever going to come up for air again.

Rawrrrrrr. ^_^

"Oh, God," she mutters, and then she starts laughing. She should feel guilty for it, but she can't, at least not right now.

"What?" he asks, and she feels his head turn towards her.

"Bonnie would shoot me for what I'm thinking right now."

My father passed unexpectedly just after Christmas, and the way you deal with Elena grieving comes off as very realistic to me-- because you *can't* think about the 'dead' part all the time; especially when it comes as a shock, it's easier to focus a part of the time on other happier things about the person. (Or sometimes forgetting that the other person is gone for a few moments until you crash down again.)

Oh, thank you. I really appreciate your comment on Elena's grieving process--it just seemed so natural, and real for her to realize and maybe even be relieved that she would not have to pass Bonnie's inspection on this one. It's because of how much she loves her that she even has that feeling to begin with, and the truth is when people pass on, they are still with us, and the way they did things sticks with us.

I'm sorry for your loss, too. *hugs* One of my favorite sayings is "to take the sting out of death, you have to take the love out of life"--and we can't do that. Death is but a separation, not a permanent state of being. Thanks for sharing with me.
