Wow, what a wonderful post. I haven't been keeping up with Southland like I once was, but I'm still totally get where you're coming from.

Like you, I don't allow entertainment to form my worldview. I do, however, sometimes find examples from entertainment that help me to express things that I already believe. What you've said here really echoes what I've been thinking about the police force in my own city lately.

I guess cuts are going on all around. It's really frustrating to me when local politicians (who tend to own businesses and work at law firms) get large salaries from taxpayers, while the fire and police departments and other departments who depend on the city for their sole income have to struggle. /rant

It was interesting for my anger about the character dying to transform into anger at the system and the situation that so many law enforcement people find themselves in.

We live in an unfair world, we really do.
