New technology and cows on the M4

After sneering at them for as long as possible, I finally bought a TomTom last weekend. It got me to a friend's housewarming at an unfamiliar location, and last night it got me to West Kensington. Why did you sneer at the satnavs? I know they can be a bit unreliable (I confess the jinty/MCR) incident put me off them for a while, as for a bit the only time people seemed to talk about them was to tell stories of how it sent them off in the opposite direction to the one desired!)
I'm good at map-reading, but I can't drive and simultaneously read a map, and there's only so much I can memorise for a complex route through a heavily built up area. So I find 'em great for the lone driver (or driver cursed with a passenger hopeless with maps) mind you I'll check my route beforehand, and will ignore the satnav when it tries to take me a different route from the one I've already plotted (it'll catch up!)

I reckon you should have cracked and got one ages ago, it'll make driving so much less stressful!

They do cause havoc on the country lanes of Devon - we get big European lorries stuck in our village regularly.

I suppose it's important to temper their use with some independent thought too. But so far I'm finding it very helpful.
