Seriously?

I had to be at work in ten minutes so I stopped at the Walgreens that's thirty seconds from my job. Usually. I'm in and out in about 2 minutes and would love to go about my merry way, but some genius decided to park his liquor delivery truck in a way that completely blocked me in. Worth noting also: he could have pulled forward a matter of feet ( Read more... )

commenters morally obligated to disagree, that didn't work - let's try cussing, it's only bad service if you die

he was wrong, and you were right. good for you in standing your ground! here, have a free do-gooder cape! :D

seriously, jackasses need to be reminded that they arent the only beasts in the world. too bad you didnt get his truck number so you could report his nasty self to his employer. (because they ARE told to be aware of blocking in other people's vehicles. my ex got told that was a writing-up offense, and could be a firable one if he made it a habit, at frito-lay.)

I concur! I work at a restaurant/cafe where we get deliveries from US Foods (a food distribution company) and the delivery always takes a long time because he has to move his truck out of the way of the parked cars that park at the meters in front of our store. *shrugs* It comes with the job. I've never seen any of the delivery guys get pissed about it or dismiss the people who ask him to move.

your attitude got pretty nasty pretty quickly. i understand that you were in a rush but cursing and telling him that his own stupidity was what was making him have to move, well these things were unnecessary.

well. it's completely unnecessary to block someone's vehicle in.

Both can be unnecessary at the same time.

It could have been easily prevented if he hadn't blocked her in, in the first place and then refused to move his delivery truck.

While I can understand your frustration, there were much better ways to handle this. I'm not surprised that the man got frustrated and angry so quickly. What started with bad_service turned into a bad situation all around, which the driver shouldn't be completely blamed for.

The simple act of stating your request firmly and respectfully without the use of profanity is a basic start. It's not always easy to keep calm, but reigning in your anger while trying to deal with strangers is always preferred over blatant insults.

If he outright refused or if the OP felt the need to invest more time, it would always be possible to speak with a manager or ask for the manager's number. Even copying down the truck's license plate and calling a tow truck was an option.

I'm with you! If someone gives me attitude when I nicely ask them to do something, my response is to give them attitude back. The Kill Them With Kindness approach may have worked in the 50s but most people won't respond to anything passive. I would've let him know I was frustrated too. I might not have cussed but I can't guarantee it, mostly because I've never been in that kind of situation (blocked in/late to work).

By the way, is it weird that I so enjoy your posts? They're never about good things, obviously, but I do enjoy reading about the way you handle things. ♥

Haha, way to go. Like someone said above, it's really too bad you didn't get the license plate or the truck number so you could have reported him to his company.

I didn't think of it unfortunately...at the moment I just wanted to get to work and call my friend and vent (hate being annoyed at the beginning of a shift...bffs are great for that kinda thing)
