Unexpectedly terrible customer service on multiple levels

Feb 23, 2011 16:53

This is possibly the worst customer service I've ever received, and from a restaurant's owner, no less.

Having visited this restaurant (sandwich place just north of Chicago) several times in the past and receiving ok food and ok service, I absolutely refuse to ever go again based solely on the attitude of the owner.

I recently ordered food to go on a ( Read more... )

commenters morally obligated to disagree, "i'll not be coming back here", op likes replying!, customers shouldn't get what they want, *bad policy, business breaking the rules, it's only bad service if you die

whaaaat?

you paid for your entire order. you only received a partial order. how is that being a pain?

this sounds really, really sketchy.

I suggest leaving a bad review on Yelp, as well as contact consumerist.org

YEah, I left a review on yelp. We'll see how long it stays up.

Good luck! That was beyond bad_service. I don't blame you for ever wanting to go back.

I guess you should also keep an eye on your bank account, just in case.

I've had bad experiences that ended up costing me more money, but in terms of the outright, utter rudeness by the owner of an establishment over something this small that they could have easily have fixed, this was the worst.

Yeah because that's all that matters.

This is totally unacceptable. I work as a chef in a resturaunt, which my good friend owns. We have a very very primitive credit card system, and take manual imprints and even we can refund someone their money. The only reason I think he refused is because for small businesses we get charged per transaction and for a transaction of less then fifteen dollars, it costs more for us to run it, but he should have still refunded you, the mistake was on his end. We would have offered to refund you, PLUS given you another side of potatoes for free and probably also a giftcard to come back in and eat another meal for free. I can't believe they wouldn't do that for you!

Having worked in retail for several years, and friends who've worked in restaurants, I just couldn't believe he would outright lie like that. Really? You're really really sure you can't do a credit card return?? I didn't even care that much about the refund, $3 (and probably 30 cents worth of potatoes) is nothing in the grand scheme of things but damn. Not really something that necessitates treating your customers like dirt right off the bat.

He wouldn't even need to do a return, eat-in restaurants run your card initially as a pre-authorization and then adjust the amount later for the tip. He could have just knocked the bill down $3 when he ran it through with a final figure.

That's exactly what my waitress friend told me after the fact, which got me more pissed at his attitude.

Thumbs up to whoever did those. I never said this was the worst service anyone ever received, just that it was one I've the worst I've experienced (which, yes, is lucky for me considering some of the other things people have posted here).

I think those tags are being sarcastic. The 'it's only bad service if you die' is usually to poke fun at commentors who disagree with posts because they 'aren't bad enough', when really, if it's bad service, it's bad service.

Oh no, I got that, I've read this community often enough :-) that particular tag just cracks me up.

One time, I went to a small business, and they charged my CC 4 times for the same order. Obv I was pissed so I called them up, but they couldn't refund me so I had to drive back down there (30 min) and he just gave me cash for my order.

Weird. The cc system we use for our restaurant doesn't store numbers in a useable fashion so if something like that happens I have to get the cc number from the customer. I can confirm the last 4 digits, expiration and name on card but I can't make actual adjustments without th cardholder giving me the full number. All the updates we got for PCI compliance changed those capabilities.

The food truck guy that used to come by my work before the economy tanked and he folded showed me how he could pull up the full number and exp. date for any card he had ever run (which is one of the reasons I never paid him by card).
