Landlord issues

Sep 18, 2010 14:37

My fiance and I moved into a home we found for rent through a rental company. The house was perfect for my 3 year old, myself and my fiance and an amazing deal.

We paid rent on time every month - if not early. We did not cause issues. We kept the place in good condition. This, apparently, was not enough for the rental company.

Yikes. I am really glad you got out of there at least. And I bet your heart just broke for these people that it might take a few more days for them to rent the place out. :P Maybe they thought you were a pain in the ass to expect them to actually do repairs.

In any case, yeah, letter, return receipt, small claims court, blah blah blah. Good luck.

Why in the hell should you be concerned with the amount of time it will take them to rent the place out, given the way they've treated you? Ridiculous.

I can't offer any suggestions that others haven't already pointed out. I had to mention statutes to my most recent landlord because she tried to screw us out of our deposit. I was told that I was bothering her, and that she'd been in the business for 25 years and therefore, I clearly had no idea what I was talking about. Luckily I have a close friend who is an attorney. It took him calling her (citing the same statutes I had, mind you) and forwarding a letter with his law firm's letterhead, citing those same statutes, for her to back down. So, it might be beneficial to have an attorney ring your landlord- he/she may be taken more seriously. Good luck. What a pain!

How do you do that email thing (prompt)??

Also, did you take pictures before moving out?
