Bad Service, WTF, or Just Plain Strange?

Thought I would post this here to get some opinions.

I went to grab a salad for lunch, paid for the salad, then turned around to get a dressing from the refrigerator (this is a sort of mom and pop type place).  As I am getting the dressing, I'm told that the dressing will be 50 cents extra.  Mind you there are no signs posted anywhere saying this ( Read more... )

wtf service or wtf post?, question

Strictly as a former manager and as a current business owner/operator...neither.
It's Stupid Service.
Number one, I agree, if you get a salad you expect to have some dressing for it.
Number two, if it's NOT included, (bad idea, imo) then it SHOULD be posted and on the menu where the salad is listed. To not list it is like a bait-and-switch routine.

Unless you know that woman was the owner I'd check back with the owner another time and find out why such a policy and let them know it should be posted. I know a lot of places that charge for extra condiments over a set number, but it's always posted in the places I've gone if they're not going to include any.

Dumb service, but not bad service.

Stupid service, definitely. Salads should include the dressing. Extra dressing is usually an additional charge, but not the initial serving. I'd suggest (nicely) that if they're going to charge for dressing separately, they need to inform customers on the menu.

That is pretty ridiculous. If the dressing is so expensive for them that they need to charge more for it, perhaps they should hide it in the price of the salad.
