Minor WTF service

I just moved, and when I went to the local Gigantic Grocery/Misc. Items Superstore I wasn't planning on buying much: just a shower curtain and liner, so I didn't grab a cart or a basket or anything. However, I'm bad at sticking to plans and ended up grabbing a metric ton of shit that I was struggling to carry around the store. All the carts were ( Read more... )

*grocer, happy ending

I often go into a store for one thing so I don't grab a cart or basket and then I wind up buying a bunch of stuff. I've found the bags for fresh produce are good for carrying the small stuff. I'll also stuff my pockets if the items fit (I always half expect someone to accuse me of shoplifting!).

Haha I did that once. I had just come from work and I had a pair of scrubs on that had like 6 pockets and I just kept seeing stuff I needed, and they went into my pockets. Then I walked up to the register and just began pulling stuff out of everywhere xD The cashier gave me a o.O look but I patted down my scrubs to show her it was all on the counter.

She's probably like one of those posters in customers_suck that doesn't believe that being a nice human being is part of her job description. It's a good thing you didn't ask her for directions, you might've been met with RAGE.

@ OP

Bet you ten to one she was on break so she was rude about it. I always see the kids that work at my grocery store, do something similar unless a manager is standing by the door.

Ugh thisss.

While it can be frustrating to have to help people on your break and not get compensated for it, it looks so much better if you help the people instead of being rude.

I just used to take off my work shirt or throw a jacket over it, because if I was rushing around the store to find something to eat, I really didn't have time out of my 15-30mins to help 20 customers find shit.

Yeah, I always did the same thing. I'm kinda baffled by people who don't take steps to conceal, and then bitch. Even turning your shirt inside-out helps! I think the few times someone even realized what it was [and maybe more people did, and didn't say anything, figuring there was a reason to have it turned inside out] were usually pretty nice once I was like "I'm on my break." when they realized I'd given a pretty vital clue to that.

What was more annoying were the regulars who recognized you and would hassle you on your days /off/. Now that's another story...

Some stores tell the workers to say no if someone asks you to watch their stuff. Mind you the place I'm thinking of in particular was the same place that covered How to tell if a customer has a concealed weapon but that might just be a problem with where I live.

"Um, no actually" might have meant "I'm actually not allowed". the word 'actually' isn't just filler all the time. Plus when you know company policy it's obvious to you and you may fail to realize that no, it's not clear to everyone.

Or perhaps she happened to have impaired vision and was making a joke. (This assumes she has my sense of humor.)

I understand she could have communicated more effectively, but minimum wage doesn't include 'talking to the customers'. In fact, said same place scolded employees for talking to the customers too much. Yes, they are now closed.

That sucks that she wouldn't watch your stuff. What would it take, fuckin 30 seconds to go grab a cart? Jeez ( ... )

I HATE PEOPLE WHO ARE SHOPPING IN STORES AND WILL JUST BLINDLY WALK AROUND!

LOL. Yes! I can't stand these people... are all the items really that mesmerising? You can stop and watch them run into you, literally!

Sometimes I wish I was like that so I didn't notice it... arg!

I'm glad you finally found something to put your stuff in - that happens to me too. Usually it's a basket upgrade.

Girl was rude, but is probably assuming you're like most customers. They ask you to watch your stuff and then disappear.. only to reappear later and bitch that you "lost" their items, getting a manager in the mix. She could at least have grabbed a cart, though.

Somtimes I feel like faking a theft is the only way to get anyone's attention.
