I'm sorry, but I don't really see any suck here except on your end. You knew a site was 18+ and you tried to join anyway, you got banned because if this is the site I'm thinking of then very understandably don't want underage users! I'm surprised their email was only "passive aggressive" after you put them in such an awkward position by registering anyway ( ... )

Eeeh, I'd say it depends on the handle. If it's one not very obscure or unique (Kitty, for example), then that's... Pretty creepy. But it's VERY dependent on how common it is as a name.

See if the OP gave them one generic name and rolled on, that'd be one thing, but they gave them two separate handles (one which was used on the site in question) and an age at the very least. I feel like you could cross reference those with certain keywords ("Pern" "RP") and get a pretty tight range of results. Google is scary like that.

IDK, I'm relatively well versed in Google Fu myself so I guess that's why it doesn't surprise me!

I don't think it's even multiple-keywords level difficult. if you google "kitty dragon" or whatever common name and find one on say, DeviantArt, who is about 16 and has Pern listed as an interest... there you go. That's hardly stalking.

I really don't think this makes admin a creepy person. In this day and age of ubiquitous social networking, people google names and screen names pretty much every day for the most mundane of reasons, and if your personal real life information is somehow traceable via that screen name then that's your own personal problem that you need to take care of yourself... not admin's. (protip: if you don't run vanity searches on yourself and your screen names just to see what connects to what, then you're not being careful enough)

Besides, who's to say admin doesn't just happen to know a friend of a friend of hers and asked. That's pretty normal, too.

Until today, when it was discovered that she had ranted about me on a public roleplay discussion board and advertising site.

So this site and its admin has been featured on BRPS before for their triggering stuff, toxic attitude, and general awfulness.

Why the fuck would you go back?

I think it has the characters locked down, but I last looked at the site over a year ago and even then I NOPEd out of there almost immediately. Someone with greater tolerance for terrible would have to check.

...That said, I find Admin's attitude hilariously hypocritical, given that to the best of my knowledge the game has, post-18+ ruling, had underage members actively playing and not banned them.

That is the case in this situation, I wanted to see if my biography was still there in an archive area or whatnot.

As someone who HAS been stalked, I fail to see how readily available information found on google is stalking.

I've gotten players before who have given me "bad vibes", so I entered their email into google to see if there was anything to my hunch. At times, this has brought up stuff like forum posts made my the user on other sites. In one case, I found the user was quite homophobic and abrasive on other sites, so my "bad vibes" were verified, and it meant I watched them more closely on my own games.

That's hardly stalking. That's very public info. I don't blame admins who want to err on the side of caution and google someone they're getting bad vibes with to see if there's anything to it.

That said, while I believe I know the game and find that game gross, I...don't see how they're at fault in this situation? If anything, they were being responsible in upholding their own rules and ensuring an underage player didn't get into their very-much-not-for-underage-players game.

To clarify I had not used my old username when saying that I was a returning member, I'm fairly certain they had said they didn't remember me by my description, and then they used my username in my e-mail.

Furthermore I'm more skeeved with the hunting down and then publicly detailing it thing, I'm not saying that what I did earlier was good. If anything it was an exercise in idiocy. My reasons for registering were to see what had happened with my characters bio as I'm largely sure that several characters had been changed into warped NPCs against the will of the original player.

Yeeeeah, but their public detailing of it left you anon - much like your public detailing of their shenanigans here is leaving them anon. Hi, Pot, this is Kettle?

Sure, it can be kind of worrying to know that they looked for your age, but if it was me in their shoes, I'd have done the exact same thing. It never hurts to verify a potential member's age, especially if one's site is catering to an adult crowd. Whatever their other sins, they did nothing at all wrong in doing that.

Birthdates are widely distributed and known, too, if you have anything of an internet presence; it's not like it's particularly well-hidden information in most cases.

I'm confused here - how did she publicly identify you? In her rant, she refers to you as "a guest". She refers to your age. That's it. Is there something we're missing?

If you genuinely consider anonymously venting about you to be a suck, then yeah, like the others say you're doing it right now. :\
