And then treat him like he's still 'joking' every time he brings it up. After a while though, have your character get seriously worried about his mental health and bring in a priest to try to fix him.

It's all ~secret~ in her world so she still does the whole HA HA HA WHAT A STORY NO ONE COULD BELIEVE THAT HA HA HA to other people's backgrounds. (Well, at first. She's been there awhile now and realized all this weird stuff is suddenly the norm, so she accepts it more. BUT THE POINT STANDS.)

At least when I play my character from Ragnarok Online, I do it in places where portals/multiverses/etc are a possibility.

They rarely turn out to be 'decent' OOC either; you'll find that out the first time you try to talk to them about their RP.
Oh, and you'll be an "uncreative elitist" who has "no imagination" for not accepting it. If you're lucky, they'll pull the, "Well, if you were my friend you'd accept it!" or "all RP is good RP."
At which point, you just turn around and walk away.
