"leading on" and "ditching"

Dec 14, 2010 20:57

I was randomly IMed by someone who was interested in an RP, I tried to come up with a plot. I had to take a pause in the brainstorming due to IRL concerns, I was then accused of trying to "ditch" after "spending 30 minutes leading said person on" I then, because I was unsure of how the brainstorm was going in the first place especially since said ( Read more... )

*sigh* I know, the hillarious thing is the person just came off as really really pushy. told me I was a liar (for just feeling out to see if we're compatible apparently.) the person made me feel like I was OBLIGATED to play because I talked to the person for 30 minutes.

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF BRAINSTORMING BEFORE YOU PLAY.

Good lord no, you're not in the wrong. 8 < Be very, VERY thankful you got out of there when you did, if it's that bad now I could only imagine how terrible actually RPing with this person could be. D:

Yeah, I generally don't like feeling obligated to play, it's not fun when you feel like you "owe it" for "wasting their time.".

I just hope whoever it was was lying about my other RP partners talking behind my back. or otherwise tries to tar me.

You're fine. The other person's a manipulative nut and you did the right thing dumping them quick.

Nope, you weren't in the wrong. I can't say for certain whether or not you did anything to prompt this kind of response without looking at the logs, but when you're just brainstorming you haven't even made a commitment yet, especially not after half an hour.

Was what I thought as good netiquitte really bad netiquitte?

I have no idea, since you don't say what you said to the guy to prompt this reaction, but no, entering into a conversation with a stranger over IM does not then obligate you to chain yourself to your desk for the next 12 hours to pet their ego.

I mostly just tried to explain that I wasn't comfortable and thought it was unfair to be treated the way that I was, I was honestly trying to respectfully bow out and the person just kept being nasty.
