There's a fandom I play in which though very active and generally fun to play in makes me wish on a regular basis that it was possible to bitchslap people over the internet. There's a particular character in this fandom that

This. This is why I never let my (TOS) Chekov out to play. I'm afraid of what the internet might do to him. I've seen maybe one decent nu! Chekov who wasn't out for sex with Sulu in my RPing days. Sad but true.
It's depressing, isn't it? My flist seems permanently full of near-identical Chekov journals bemoaning their wirginty or similar fail. It- that- just- NO, DAMNIT!
Ugh. Kirk was a serious womanizer. That was a huuuuuuge aspect of his character! They carried it over into the reboot! I am so tired of the "Yeah, but even though he's never shown any interest in a single man in a sexual way in canon he's of course secretly gay!"
If you want to play an AU where he was never a womanizer, go right ahead. But don't just take a canon character, hollow out the insides, and use it as a pathetic shell to score yourself some buttsex because it's easier than getting people to accept an OC.
It's bad examples like this which make me want to rp the character and do it right. I don't rp for the sex but for the adventure which would fit ST completely. I played Bones because of the bad examples and Chekhov could be a fun character to explore and let him grow into something closer to canon than what the lousy rpers do.

Because Chekov was a bit of a flirt as I recall in TOS.

If the Chekovs are bad, I'd HATE to see the Spocks. =.=

It's almost like, "Kirk only used women because he pines for Spock. Everybody knows that."
I wish someone in "that camp" would send me a detailed list of who they consider "everybody".
