I had a thought in the theater as I watched it. "My god... it's like bad alternative universe fanfic. Wait a minute..."

And I haven't been able to touch the setting since.

I love the new movie. It is AU, but I HATE the slew of bad portrayals of Spock inspired by it.

This is why I don't RP as Spock; although I love the character, I'm worried that I'll keep pulling every Star Trek source I have out and use it to keep him as IC as I can. Thus, I get told that I don't play him properly, and end up getting irritated with myself for trying to play Spocks as seen in both TOS and the Star Trek Movies featuring him. Am never sure I can play him IC; he's one of those hit-or-miss characters.

So yeah. I know what you're talking about. Plus "Spock" and "whining over a lost love" don't compute, unless the sentence was "Spock told (Member Of Enterprise Crew) to stop whining over (MOC's gender) first love, as it was illogical and he could not concentrate on (IC preferred activity or his duties)." See? Plenty of leeway for Spock to talk about whining over a lost love! Course, it wouldn't be his lost love...

Exactly. Not even nuSpock cried over Vulcan. He would not be pining over not being able to get a date for the prom.

I suppose it really all goes back to people who RP only to RP smut. The ones who don't understand character development or depth.

Oh, yes. An IC teenage Spock wouldn't be attempting to go to the prom in the first place. He'd likely be aware of it, but involved in other activities he'd actually enjoy. Like playing chess, or doing calculus.

As for those people, they are painful to RP with. Would not call it real RP.

Perhaps they should have made it completely in the original universe, but featuring the same characters (no reboot) while younger. Then again, am questioning logic. Brain never works well when questioning logic.
