One of the things that keeps me the busiest at the beginning of any game is a) handing out people's updated character sheets and b) recording people's XP purchases. My attention is in pretty damn high demand during that time.
So one of my players decides to do me a great big 'favour' by handing me his character sheet and telling me "buy me what you think I ought to have" with his 18 XP.
Now I know some players think that doing this is a good thing, that I can now suit his character to whatever plot I have in mind. Well, it's not. I'm busy running the entire rest of the world, I don't have TIME to run someone else's character, too! So I threw the sheet on the bottom of my 'to do' pile for that evening, and I eventually get around to taking a good, long look at it.
The character is a Brujah. And nothing but a Brujah. Every single Ability is combat-oriented. All of his disciplines are combat-oriented. All of his Traits are combat-oriented. All of his Backgrounds are combat-oriented. The character is over 1000 years old and lived through the Crusades, and yet all he can do is throw a really, really, really good punch. He doesn't even have a hobby.
So, Mr. Combatweasel, I hope you enjoy your new Heraldry, Etiquette, Horse Grooming and Ballroom Dancing skills. And don't ask me to do that again.
