Hahaha. No. "There's no way we could have gotten this sack on the other side if we didn't have the Stableizer on this foal." Sir- you are wrong. Your shortcut is stupid.

Granted, the pressure point for relaxation under the lip does exist. When my vet was giving my mare an ultrasound last year he had me rub the pressure point gently with my fingers and she did relax (she was sedated as well, but still a bit tense about what was going on back there).

I hate gadgets.

That's what I thought too! I was like..well if you introduce it slowly the foal will learn without the "stableizer. I hate gadgets too. lol

Totally unrelated question, but what color is that first foal with the dark on his eyes and muzzle considered? Is that something he will grow out of?

Looks to me like he'll shed out grey. Greys can be born any color, then normally shed out to be very dark before getting lighter as they grow older.

Liver born regular chestnut will shed out to almost black.

I didn't see the first video before it was privated but I don't see the problem with the other two desensitizing videos. I've seen much worse 'breaking babies' videos in this group before. The guy actually seems to know a little bit about what he's doing and isn't being unnecessarily rough or forcing the force into submission, he's just using devices to make the foal learn on its own how to move with a line. Maybe not the best way to do it, or the only way, but I've seen worse! (For example the last video you posted. Now that's cruel!)

This is old news with a new name. They had these back when I worked at the track ten years ago, only they called them 'brain chords'. Awful, awful device. The only time I've seen it used that it wasn't downright animal torture was in place of a twitch for medical procedures, and even then it wasn't pretty to see....

Even in place of medical procedures, i would still take sedation any time as the more humane method!
And that bullshit video about the horse who needed to be sedated to be de-wormed? Seriously?? Anyone with an inkling of horsemanship can see that was just a horse with plain bad manners.
