Parelli... Need I say more?

Oct 24, 2013 23:13

A lot of you might have seen this already, but when I first started hearing about Parelli most of their questionable videos had disappeared into thin air. Then this gem surfaced on the web. Linda P. at her "best".
If you can find one thing right with this video, I'll buy one of those damn carrot shticks and eat it.

I kind of wish the horse would have reared and clobbered her.

I get the *concept* but the execution kinda blows. I checked out about the same time the horse did. "Oh. You're just gonna keep waggling that shit in my face? Huh. Ok."

This is just waaaaay too long to work on something with a horse that's not being particularly naughty without a release.

The fun part about "training" this way is that it can create a horse who rears with any kind of wiggle or slack in the rope.

It is super fun to work with, and super fun to try to "unteach."

Parelli = will never understand.

You know, I watch this, and what I see in Linda's body language is anger. Anger and pure negativity.

She doesn't move or carry herself like somebody who cares one bit for horses...in fact, the exact opposite. All of her movements are jerky and aggressive. If I did not know who it was, my assessment would be "Man. This woman hates that horse."

Hates. Actively.

One has to wonder...

Poor thing. He is getting NO constructive feedback. It's just LASHLASHLASHSWINGSWINGWHIPFLAIL. How is he supposed to learn a damn thing?

I am okay with a variation on this method -- very small wiggles, with small escalations, and rewarding *every tiny move in the right direction*. I just don't get it: even if you ARE going to be this idiotic, shouldn't it be obvious that if you stop flapping your line around the moment the horse steps back, he figures out that flapping means stepping, and stepping means it stops? SHOCKER.
