Hahahaha that first one on the first video - it's like the horse finally had enough of her nonsense and foolishness and said, "Ok, I'm getting the hell out of here - let me know how it goes!"
The second video...oy. It seems more and more that Eventing is all about getting the hottest, craziest horse you can, feeding it rocket fuel, then stumbling through a sham of a dressage test before spending the next two days pointing it at ridiculous obstacles (dude I TOTALLY come across giant fiberglass geese in my path that I need to jump while I'm out hacking, don't you?) and riding it as fast and as hard as you can at them.
The '78 championships - DAMN that first horse totally played a drumroll on her helmet there! Also, kind of refreshing to see people actually attempting to pick good lines and set their horses up at sane distances. That first horse going over the giant's table made it look like it wasn't any big effort.
About half the accidents in the first video either wouldn't have happened or would've been much less ugly if eventers would learn to stop riding so far in the back seat.
Eventing is the most TERRIFYING equine sport imho. Giant jumps that don't move? Huge drops into water? I'm surprised more people aren't horribly injured. Lots of respect for people who do it, just.. Not for me. I can't even crit the bad riders because at least they're trying.. ? I dunno, I would wet myself at the sight of even a baby eventing course.
CHRIST that big drop into the water in the first video is MASSIVE. i'm not surprised at how many crashes it caused. i dont even remember seeing that big of a drop into water at the Olympics haha
All I can think in the first video is GET OUT OF THE SADDLE! A lot of them, if they'd been balanced in their feet (instead of hands and knees) would have been fine.
