In the first one, it looks like a lesson situation, so I suspect she's been asked to ride the line with only one hand on the reins (thus, the other one on her head).
It didn't look like adjusting so much as intentional, like an exercise? I'm not sure the point of it, though, if you're going to let the student haul the horse's face the entire time with the other hand. That and general lack of balance is I think what unseated her.
The second just looks like someone being dumb. And yeah, can't imagine that could possibly do any favors to the pony.
It looks to me like she's supposed to ride the line with one hand on her head. But the horse chipped in and she wasn't balanced enough to stay on with only one hand.
what kind of instructor asks a student to ride a line with only one hand when they obviously don't have enough balance yet? Mine makes me do gymnastics with no reins or stirrups, but that's because she knows my 'balance level' I guess
it could be the instructors tactic of 'improving her balance' either that or they find an angry pony desirable. I don't know how she came off though, that looks pretty lame.... second one, totally staged, at the expense of the pony.
WTF happened in the first video! I wonder if she had a helmet that was ill-fitting or it didn't have a strap? If she can't have a balanced seat with one hand, perhaps she shouldn't be jumping?
I agree, to me it looks like the first vid she's in a lessons and has been asked to ride with one hand. Seems stupid that she's approaching the jump with one hand, made it all too easy to get set up wrong, which resulted in the fall.
Second one looks like she might have gotten hung up on the saddle with the top of her boot. I think the "fall" was still staged though. Her voice sounds like she's acting.
How about approaching a jump no-handed then? I've done exercises like that in my lessons to improve my leg and body, and it's worked very well. I'm still sort of on the fence as far as whether or not this video's really bad riding. Everything looked good to me up until that chip in. I'm starting to think that the rider was holding the hrose abck a little from the start and was perhaps nervous about getting a bad distance, and ended up getting a bad one from being nervous and holding the horse back. The fall was pretty lame and I'm still not quite sure what happened there. Maybe it was jsut one of those random "oops" moments or one of those "I got to nervous to remember" moments? But I don't think the whole situation is all that bad.
The second video however is awful. I never understood the idea of faking a stupid fall, and doing it with your spurs and saddle dragging across your poor pony's back is just cruel. :(
