By my reckoning it's been almost a full year that I've been stuck in this City. A whole gorram year. Haven't got a clue how long it makes back home - some folks said back when I got here time may pass differently in this place. It's still twelve months too many to be stuck earthbound in one and the same spot. For the longest time, it was just River ( Read more... )

restless, serenity, missing the black, crew, been stuck on ground too long, gorram city

...Mid-bulk transport. A Firefly. Ever heard of those?

[ooc: Indeed. He has a habit of being a bit mulish. XD]

Never heard of a transport ship model by that name, but I've seen a bunch myself. I knew some coyotes that'd fly 'em whenever they'd stop by the Pirate.

[ooc; And that's what we love about him. :3 And Franca wants to see this ship. +_+]

Conjure I can't blame you for that. They're not as common these days as they used to be. Coyotes? My turn to be ignorant, now. Stop by the Pirate? That a town or port or somesuch?

[ooc: It is! 8D Well, you know how Mal feels about strange folk onboard, but he's also a sofie underneath. ;)]

...You don't sound too confident about playing with your 'boat'.

That's why I hired a mechanic to do the tinkering. Only problem is said mechanic's back home and the boat's here. You do the math. Still, don't mean I can't try.

So that makes you the captain, I guess.

I'd offer to help, but I doubt I'd be as useful as your other friend. Sounds like yours is a space-faring boat, and I've never worked on spacecraft.

Good guess. Mal Reynolds' the name. And you'd be?

That she is. Firefly class mid-bulk transport. Thanks for the offer, anyway.

Okay. So you're a friend of Simon's.

Friend? Depends on who you're askin', suppose. How do you know the good doctor?

I've got friends who slip into greek and latin here and there, but he's the only one who slips into chinese.

We've been working on his smalltalk skills for a while. I'm Rose.

Simon's sister seems to like to babble latin, as well. Seems odd, all these folks from different places and it seems we're the only ones usin' chinese now and again.

Nice to meet you, Rose. I'm Captain Reynolds, but most folk call me Mal. Simon's a member of my crew, along with his sister.

I'm sure Kaylee and Zoe are fine back home.

bad_in_thelatin December 30 2007, 20:29:23 UTC
Think so, do you? I sure hope so. I know Zoe'll look after Kaylee, but it's just... the ship's here. We're here. And we're pretty damn stuck here 'less a miracle happens.

Kaylee's not as defenseless as you might think, you know. Most women aren't.

.... you're not going to tinker around with the engines, are you?

I know that, I just don't want anything bad happenin' to her.

....Well. It'd beat just sittin' around doing nothing!

Well, look who's come out of hiding! Nice to see ya around too, albatross.

...So now you're swearin' in latin?

Wasn't hiding, just lost myself. The mind's a labyrinth, and I forgot the string and breadcrumbs to lead me out.

I see. Well, you seem to have un-lost yourself, now. And you make as much sense to me as ever before, which is little. So I reckon things are more or less as they should be.

Motivation for what?
